The rhododendrons are in bloom
All dolled up in purple, pink, and white
Wilting pedals strewn on the grass below
Like a church floor covered in rice
A gnarled old maid in any other season
But for these two weeks in June
When she squeezes into her gaudy gown, desperate to please
Smears on her lipstick and splashes perfume
Sadly, only the bumblebee seems to care
Teetering like a drunken sailor at an open bar
